Abstract (max 2000 character)[edit]

The core idea of RINNOVATE is that each building should integrate all renovation and maintenance expenditures into a plan to achieve nearly zero energy. This approach will make easier to integrate energy saving and renewable sources solutions early in the design and schedule of renovation and maintenance plans, exploiting synergies, making the measurement of returns more reliable and increasing owners' confidence in spending for obtaining additional energy performances. This practice will help to speed-up the energy-efficiency renovation rate in public and private buildings. RINNOVATE partners work on demand (owners), supply (material, component and service suppliers) and integration (renovation and energy consultants, designers, finance), both in private and public sectors, creating a catalyst environment for gathering a community of interest around a rich knowledge hub referencing more than 1200 cases organized around existing ontologies. Simple visual interfaces will allow to 'find' and 'add by example' across disciplines and languages. Community members (800 owners, renovation and energy experts and suppliers) will then work together activating free consultancy services examining more than two hundred cases and preparing sixty plans to set nearly Zero Energy Building in Renovation as a standard Approach (ZEBRA). The RINNOVATE community will establish active channels with existing networks, projects, communities dealing with EE/RUE and RES/RET in order to promote cross linking and to identify and enroll actors that are involved/interested in building renovation, energy efficiency and renewable sources. Combining and promoting existing services, RES and EE technologies, ESCO/EPC -finance solutions and their design expertise, members will deliver and implement integrated renovation and maintenance strategies, becoming a sustainable trading place after the financed period. RINNOVATE will be implemented during 30 month in Spain, Italy, Portugal and UK.

Major outputs & expected results (max 2000 character)[edit]

You should list up to 5 key outputs, plus the main outcomes of your action. The information must be coherent with the tables provided in section 4 "Specific Objectives, Key Outputs and Outcomes within the duration of the action".

  • The catalyst environment for ZEBRA - nearly Zero Energy Building in Renovation as a standard Approach constitutes the methodological, operational and social conditions to gather a community of interest. It contains 1200 cases and solutions around a semantic knowledge centre searchable with an semantic rich visual interface.
  • 800 one-to-one contact with experts, owners, suppliers from relevant projects and cases to develop cross collaboration across renovation value chain, followed by 10 training sessions organised in 4 EU countries (ES-PT-IT-UK) result in 300 signatories members successfully trained to audit and design pathways to ZEBRA (nearly Zero Energy Building in Renovation as a standard Approach)
  • ZEBRA pilot service is activated in 3 countries (ES,EN,IT) by partners and members of the community, resulting in
    • 240 collaborative audit service activated and conducted
    • 120 renovation design projects fostered
    • 60 renovation design projects mentored to completion.
  • Connections established with content and social networking involve 2000 total subscribers to nodes and 50.000 single users, along with 8 connections with generic market networking nodes; 24 connections with public procurement nodes; 12 connections with suppliers malls and networks and 250 technology-assisted training units for cross-media collaboration delivered for total 500 hours

Principal outcomes

There is a visible community of owners, renovation experts and suppliers who integrate renovation and maintenance strategies with ZEBRA-like approach. Several thousands of stakeholders are exposed to a change of perspective and behaviour about the return on renovation investments, and exposed to the results of factual collaboration established across the value chain and across borders. More than 70% of people contacted decide to engage in some collaboration form with others about ZEBRA using the knowledge hub, and 50000 people take part in connected communities or groups.
