Energy 2020[edit]

In the Communication Energy 2020 the Commission identifies five top priorities. For the Energy savings priority the Commission proposes to focus its initiatives on the two sectors with the biggest energy saving potential: transport and buildings.

"Special attention should be given to the sectors with the largest potential to make energy efficiency gains, namely the existing building stock and trasport sector. [...] measures need to speed up significantly the rate of refurbishment using energy-efficient products and technologies. In the residential sector, the issue of divided incentives between owners and tenats needs to be addressed. Regarding the substantial stock of public buildings, the authorities need to exploit all available opportunities, including those offered by EU Regional Policy, to improve the energy efficiency and autonomy of the buildings" (pp. 6-7)

RINNOVATE focus is on building.

Moreover, the Commission underline the importance of the committment of the public sector that should take energy efficiency into consideration when buying works, services or products.
